this might be the best thing about being at home.
fetter: a restraint; also, to impose restraints on.
You know how I woke with a jolt one day and rushed out onto the veranda barefoot to inhale the gulmohur rain? That was just for me. My toes pivoting on the dusty jaisalmer, before I remembered the newspaper. White muslin clinging, newsprint bleeding, I ran up the stairs to the towel. Hair expanded as I sat there, legs folded on a floor cushion just out of the rain's reach, drinking coffee so metallic, it could've been brewed with rust shavings, straight out of Márquez. Finally home. Finally, finally, a home of my own. Cotton curtains waving in the windows, and shallow brass ghadas filled with water and flowers and soon, when my first Diwali in a decade rolls around, diyas. I poured as much love as I had in me into this small space and now, it nourishes me back. Beckoning me from bed every morning with the reward of being here, being whole. Swishing me to sleep every night with the creaking ceiling fan that sounds like a smile. Tranquility. Shaant. Khud se baat-cheet. Dal chawal for dinner. Sundays at New Friends. Lodhi garden ke chakkar, and chuskis in the summer with Kakul. Belligerently got cappuccinos with Swati. Reinventing the world, one activity, one word, one look at a time.
umbrage: offense; resentment.
(if this type of entry was posted before, my bad).
Well, when i was young, I saw the movie, "indianna jones and the temple of doom." In that movie, some desis there were represented there as eating monkey brains and bugs. I recently found out that I wasn't the only hater of the movie's depiction. Thank you to to YT for that kal penn interview.
So, name something that pisses you off about that people have done, said, or showed in your eyes, as demeaning towards desis. Intentional or not.

It's amazing how much of our lives we spend evading silence and solitude.
...... It was amazing to have everything come together at the last moment. There's nothing else in the world that is akin to performing or seeing your creative work onstage danced by so many talented dancers or seeing the number of audience members that come to the performance.
Its like an affirmation that there are people there who will support your work even though they really are there because they are friends with someone in the cast. Somehow they are there to support their dancer friend which in turn supports my work.
There were some technical difficulties at Cunningham but the space is still gorgeous and seeing my work on that stage is unbelievably satisfying. I think I've been born to do this. Ever since I've choreographed for the stage, I love seeing my dreams and ideas come to life in rehearsals and onstage. Its as if all your dreams have come true. (In the sappiest sense) Sometimes, I love it more than I love performing myself. I do know that I love performing other people's work than I do my own. (hire me?)
Anyways, now its post performance week, and I'm trying to busy myself up with getting my kids ready for their end of year performance next month and the applications for different performance things in the fall. I'm still pretty sad that I don't get to see my lovely dancers in the studio though. :-(

I know I have a lot of pet peeves. Let me share another one, gleaned from many, many, many community posts. I am not picking on any of my friends, so don't stress that I mean you, because I don't ;p
If you're going to try to sound chic and throw in French words, make sure you've got them right, please.
It's "bow-coo" (beaucoup), not "boo-kow"
It's "voila", not "viola" (the latter is a flower or a musical instrument, not a French exclamation). Pardon my own lack of accent on the "a" in voila.
Its not "le babe," it's "le bebe" and saying it in French doesn't make yours any more or less cute.

cavil: to raise trivial objections; also, a trivial objection.
hey all.... a disapointing end to an otherwise great week in rome... my back injury should not be serious long term. doug does not want me to hit for a couple of days which would make preparing for hamburg impossible. also, the weather is traditionally very cold there. this makes it more likely to reinjure something.. with the french open and wimbledon around the corner i just cant take that chance. my plan is to head to the states for treatment, and then make my way back for dusseldorf... hope all is well with u and take care... i will try to write in to let u all know how its coming along this week
i think he's making a smart decision here. it sucks that he has to miss a tournament, but like he said, with the slams coming up, he needs to be as close to 100% for those.

acumen: quickness or keenness of perception or discernment.
After experiencing back spasms in Saturday’s semi-final match, Andy has withdrawn from next week’s Masters Series in Hamburg. Andy and Team Roddick will return to the states as soon as possible to treat his back.
Andy plans to return to action at the ARAG World Team Cup in Dusseldorf.

i think that's a smart choice. he should rest up, get his body back to 100% in time for the French Open.

I fell asleep to Lage Raho Munnabhai and slept for thirteen hours. Just what I needed. And now I'm having a cup of tea.

so far the only notable thing i have done is eat a lot of pretzel sticks dipped in nutella.
oh and i also figured out that these are a knockoff of these. i'm usually on the wrong financial end of imitation fashion, so it was pleasing to learn that i can be a wise consumer, too!!! whether i mean to or not. and i decided that i hate gladiators and i must have been high during the six seconds when i thought they can actually look okay on the right person.
i'm out of nutella bye
